Our best wishes to Patrick and Mariam, now planting olive trees in Palestine. The good news is that they are enjoying the sunshine, the good food and especially the company, and have planted hundreds of trees. The bad news is that gas canisters have been thrown at them several times by the soldiers of the occupation.

Saher Francis director of Addameer (http://www.addameer.org/index.php ) will speak to us about human rights for Palestinian prisoners. This is the first event of her U.K. tour:
Following our November meeting “Palestinian Prisoners and Human Rights” Oxford Ramallah Friendship Association together with Oxford Palestine Solidarity Campaign ,and Network of Oxford Women for Justice and Peace are very pleased to be jointly organising a speaker meeting in Oxford with Sahar Francis, Human Rights Lawyer and Director of Addameer.
Sahar Francis has represented Palestinian political prisoners, including children held without trial in Israeli jails and also campaigns against the mistreatment and torture of prisoners. She will speak about Israel's use of imprisonment of Palestinians as a political policy and Addameer's work to support and defend these prisoners' human rights.

Every Saturday 11.30-1.30pm: OXFORD PSC STALL in Cornmarket by St Michael at Northgate church. The OPSC Saturday street stall on Cornmarket Street is one of the main ways we use for raising the issue of Palestine with the public at large. It is an important activity for offering information leaflets to the public, inviting them to join PSC or leave their email for Oxford PSC updates. Generally we are there 11:30 to 13:30. Always a minimum of two people on shift. Please consider volunteering for a shift: it’s an opportunity to meet other PSC members, those wanting information and occasionally those wishing to challenge our views, even volunteering for one shift a year would help. Shlomo Sand & Avi Shlaim: The Invention of the Land of Israel
In conversation with Avi Shlaim
What is a homeland? When does it become a national territory? Why have so many people been willing to die for such places throughout the twentieth century? What is the essence of the Promised Land?
Following the acclaimed and controversial 'The Invention of the Jewish People', Shlomo Sand examines the mysterious sacred land that has become the site of the longest-running national struggle of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. 'The Invention of the Land of Israel' deconstructs the age-old legends surrounding the Holy Land and the prejudices that continue to suffocate it. The invention of the modern concept of the “Land of Israel” in the nineteenth century, he argues, not only facilitated the colonization of the Middle East and the establishment of the State of Israel, it is also what is threatening Israel's existence today.
Shlomo Sand will be discussing his new book with Avi Shlaim, author of Israel and Palestine and signing copies.

Harry Fear is an independent journalist, documentary maker and activist from the UK, who gave live broadcasts from Gaza during the recent Operation Pillar of Cloud. We are pleased to be able to host his presentation, in this joint event with King's College London, and UCL (please note that it is also open to the public).
Harry witnessed the recent Israeli Operation Pillar of Cloud offensive against the Gaza Strip first-hand, and is well-known for broadcasting live reports from the ground during November 2012. He will be speaking as part of a national tour, discussing his personal experiences and the current situation in Gaza. There will be time at the end for a Question and Answer Session.
The event will cost £1 for entry to cover Harry's flight fees as he is coming from Malaysia, and tickets can be purchased from Eventbrite. Spaces are limited, and this is a very popular topic-so please RSVP and buy your ticket ASAP, to guarantee entry!
